The Highlights

This past weekend (March 2 & 3, 2019) Olympic gold medal soccer stars Mia Hamm, Kristine Lilly, and Tisha Venturini coached and shared some of their wisdom and experience with the Cedar Valley’s young soccer stars. The Cedar Valley Sportsplex in Waterloo, Iowa was the location of the Team First Soccer Academy‘s Iowa stop on their tour to host soccer camps all over the country.

The Soccer Superstars

The trio is among the greatest Olympians of all time, watched by the world when they took home the gold medal in the 1996 Olympics. Combined they have scored over 330 goals professionally and have been all over the world during their careers. The individual success is not the most important part, however. “They want to share this message with as many kids as they can. What can I give to this team, what can I do for this team? NOT what am I going to get out of this or what’s in it for me?” shared on the Team First website.

Their Mission

“We wanted to hit every state with the Team First Sports Program,” Kristine shared. Mia adds, “This is great…it just made sense, the three of us grew up in small towns. The opportunity to bring the game we love into [the Cedar Valley] an area similar to where we grew up, means a lot.”

The Team First Soccer Academy is an organization that is dedicated to soccer and motivating young players to continue to train and improve. From their website, “We seek to provide young soccer players a first class opportunity to develop as an individual player within the context of playing a sport that requires a disciplined unit to perform unselfishly.

It is our goal to encourage players to respect the integrity of the game while we continue to nurture their love for soccer.”

Thank You

We at Live the Valley and the rest of the Cedar Valley want to give a huge thank you to the coaches and managers from Team First Soccer Academy. They were busy in the soccer/coaching mindset and were gracious enough to spend a few moments with us to talk about the great things that they are doing for soccer and our young Cedar Valley stars. The event went really well and hundreds of community members were at the Cedar Valley Sportsplex to watch the stars work with the kids.

Thank you, again.
